PROJECT SUMMARY
The El Monte Resort Project is a non-symmetrical tension structure that covers and encloses a temperature controlled outdoor swimming pool and spa area. The tension structure maintains a free catenary edge while providing a weather tight enclosure with a return skirt that is nearly invisible from both interior and exterior.
Dharma Properties (owners) required a four season tension structure in Taos, New Mexico to compliment and meet the aesthetic appeal of their resort, the Living Machine® (an ecologically engineered natural water treatment and reclamation system).
The canopy system was engineered to interface with existing buildings and glass walls to create a weather tight room with a remote controlled inflatable hood vent. One single mast with five perimeter arms support the conical shape structure with approximately 3,000 square foot plan area coverage using white Ferrari 1002-T2 PVC Architectural Vinyl fabric.
